Killing Floor joined the Steam Workshop recently and one of the items added there is a Portal gun that fires real portals. I’ve subscribed to it, must give it a go later!
As part of the Potato Sack promotion last year a number of indie games received updates featuring content from Valve games. I didn’t take much notice of them at the time but I just found out that The Wonderful End of the World got a secret level with companion cubes! Love the cover of the similarly named Portal song!
No doubt you’ve already seen the engagement video above but here’s a short live action movie called, “Portal: No Escape” worth watching too.
Check it out here but not if you haven’t completed Portal 2 yet.
Great song and I wish I had noted which PC gaming blog I found this on because they waxed lyrical about it.
Yet another reason to hope PSN comes back. I want to play Portal 2 on PC! Pleaaaassseee!
According to the Portal 2 blog a level editor for Portal 2 has been released.
Today we’re opening up the beta of the Portal 2 Authoring Tools to everyone! It’s available as a free download for all owners of the PC version of Portal 2 and can be found under the “Tools” tab in Steam.
The Portal 2 Authoring Tools include versions of the same tools we used to make Portal 2. They’ll allow you to create your own singleplayer and co-op maps, new character skins, 3D models, sound effects, and music.
Pity Steam won’t accept the Portal 2 code until PSN comes back. I don’t suppose anyone has tried contacting Steam support to ask if they’ll relent due to the extended outage?
I guess last week was a good time to go on holiday. Portal 2 was released early in the week but it didn’t come out in Europe until Friday (and retailers broke that embargo by a day or two). My copy from Amazon.co.uk should hopefully arrive today. Woohoo!
I ordered the PS3 version like a few of my gaming friends who also have gaming PCs. Unfortunately PSN has been down for the last 5 days and there’s no indication it’s coming back any time soon. This post on Joystiq (and this reddit post has more details) suggests it’s because a custom firmware allowed users to add money to their PSN wallet using fake credit cards. Odd that since they boasted that the latest firmware update was supposed to stop all firmware hacking …
Well, it also turns out that some people over at NGU found out that you could provide fake CC# info and the authenticity of the information was never checked as you were on Sony’s private developer PSN network (essentially a network that Sony trusted). What happened next was extreme piracy of PSN content. Sony realizing the issue here shut down the network.
Anyway, I’m looking forward to playing Portal 2. I know several of you have already finished the game so no spoilers please! I’ve avoided every single review of the game so far except for the glowing tweets from friends. Hopefully when PSN comes back up I can connect my Steam account to my PSN account.
While away from my consoles I’ve been digging into Half Life 2 and I think I’m near the end of the game. What a ride! Such a good game. If you haven’t got it yet, grab the Orange Box on console or login to your Steam account on PC and go buy this beautiful game!
I have to admit I’m playing it on easy setting. I just want to enjoy the experience in the small chunks of time I have available to play games.
In other news the Minecraft server has been updated with the latest version of Bukkit so the Bukkit plugins are back and working!
Update: Late this evening Sony announced that personal information, possibly including credit card details, may have been stolen. If that’s true, Sony will be in a world of hurt with the authorities for their lax security.
I got to test chamber 18 before I needed to get help with Portal. That level is a mind bender and I didn’t have a clue what to do! Besides Youtube, there’s also portalwalkthroughs.com if you need help.
I have to admit, the supposed “end” of the next level was quite funny!
Steam launched for Mac this morning and I’ve just installed it, along with the 33MB update that downloaded as soon as I started the programme. They’re giving away Portal for free until May 24th. Thanks Alex for the heads up!
I’m downloading it even though I just got a window saying my system didn’t meet the minimum system requirements. Oddly enough it mentions “Windows driver version” so that might be just a bug. The download is very slow but it’s hit 75% so not long now. More later …
Gaming TODO list:
- Finish Bad Company 1. I’m almost near the end, but I kept dying in the village where you have to destroy the two bridges.
- Play Portal as the sequal has been announced. I have the Orange Box, and despite being a huge Half Life fan back in the day I played about an hour of HL2 before getting bored of it. I never even go to Portal.
